Countdown!

I leave for France one week from tomorrow! Sadly, I wasn’t excited because I was pretty paranoid I would be fucked wandering around all those cobblestone streets with a broken leg. But then I went and got drunk with Scarrie Carrie and Stephanie (my travel buds) last Saturday night and I started getting really happy. Who cares about this damn broken leg? It’s been fucking with my head long enough and I’m quite ready to get out of dodge and clear my head. And, I even got new boots in the mail today and I am happy to report they actually fit. Funny thing though, I put them on and I was quite bummed that the shoe on my broken foot just wasn’t working. It was really digging into the top of my foot. But then I realized I had forgotten to take out one of the thousands of cardboard pieces inserted into the boot so when I removed that little thing, it was much better. This is very, very exciting. I can’t express what a pain in the ass it’s been to find a pair of decent walking shoes for a broken leg. But alas, I did. wanna see them? Click here. I like the corset lacing on the side. Tres chic.

So, just in case my editor reads this, I need to state that I am kicking ass on my revisions. I am seriously trying to get the majority of them done before I leave next week, and then I can flesh it all out during my trip. It’ll be me, my laptop and a bottle of wine in France. What could be better? Seriously, I’m really darn excited. I can’t believe I’m going to Europe in eight days! With girls only. Wheee!!

What else? Oh, I found out the RT convention is hosting a Rocky Horror Vampire ball. How freakin’ cool is that? I actually tried to get a group of us to go the vampire ball last year dressed as RHPS characters but that plan petered out. So this year it is ON! In fact, I’m going to create some links for those who need costume inspiration because I have tons of them! My own costume us going to be a surprise, but it’s darn cool. :)

When did that happen?

Somehow it turned into September. I’m not sure how it escaped my notice, but I realized we are officially into Fall. Okay, not “officially” but you know what I mean. When September hits, it just seems like Fall. Anyway, where did the summer go? Times goes fast when you’re laying in bed watching the clouds go by.

So now it’s back to work. I started on my revisions. My editor had some issues with my heroine and I can see why. I really didn’t know her well enough to make her as endearing as she needs to be for this story. So I spent some time this morning working on character sketches and really getting to know her. Trouble is, the more I delve in, the more I realize she needs to be a lot different. So I had to change some things about her. New job, different background. A lot less baggage. So, yeah. Good times.

What else? It was a three-day weekend. Didn’t do much, but I did manage to read two books, one of which was Kresley Cole’s latest, Dark Desires after Dusk, which I must say was simply fantastic. So far my favorite in the series, and goes right on my keeper shelf. And no, I don’t have a big shelf. I absolutely fell in love with the hero and heroine in that book, the plot was great and I can’t wait to read the next one. But Kresley, in case you read this, when do we get Nix’s story? I can’t wait to see what hero you come with for that one! Oh, and I did manage to get in three episodes of Color Splash yesterday. I’m just inspired now to go paint something. Or someone.

Anyway, I was pretty happy to send my kid off to school this morning. I can actually get some work done. Except it’s almost 3:00 and so far I’ve managed to write five pages on a book I shouldn’t be working on and do a bit of brainstorming on my heroine’s emotional journey. Back to work.

P.S. Happy birthday, Diana!!

New Stuff!

My friend went to China and all I got was this awesome bag. :) Seriously, my friend took her family to the olympics and she brought back a present. For me! I love spontaneous presents more than anything. This is a cute messenger-style bag and I love it. It’s made out of canvas, has lots of zippered pockets and is perfect for carrying tons of stuff. I can actually fit my laptop in it, believe it or not. It’s going to France with me. I have no idea what it says, on account of the fact that I don’t speak Chinese. She told me it means power to the people or something. Anyone speak Chinese? I need someone to translate my accessories.

My current obsession.

So during all my downtime I developed a bit of an obsession with HGTV. I do love interior deign, and I would redo my house every few months if I had the energy or the resources. Anyway, I’ve taken to recording a bunch of shows on HGTV and then I sit four hours watching them. So my favorite is Color Splash because the host, David Bromstad is so darn cute! I love him. He just is so happy all the time. And he is incredibly talented. He does the best makeovers out of any the shows, and the best part is that he includes an original piece of art with each design. He’s so nice. And he has great arms and tends to wear tank tops. :)

Stop the remake

When I found out MTV planned on remaking Rocky Horror Picture Show I think I threw up a little in my mouth. Seriously. It’s not like Rocky is some cinematic masterpiece that should forever remain untouched because of its glorious production quality and phenomenal acting. In fact the lack of some of those things just adds to the movie’s appeal, and to this day it remains one of the most influential and longest-running movies ever made. I have spoke with several people who’ve told me that movie changed their lives. It made people question sexuality while they tapped their toes and did the time warp. And, in my opinion, what could be more fun?

RHPS is art because it made people reevaluate the way they viewed themselves, it made people question things. It titillated even as it repulsed. It made people create elaborate costumes in which to go to a theater at midnight and throw toilet paper at a screen. That’s pop culture at its best.

Which is why I believe the mucky-mucks should leave this picture alone because you know what will happen. They’ll hire some Hollywood cast and the whole thing will suck. I can see it now: Brittany Spears as Janet and Tom Cruise as Brad. Maybe Emenem could do Meatloaf. (Actually, Jack black would be a good Eddie). Rocky would be easy. Brad Pitt already has that one nailed. But Frankenfurter? I’m thinking…thinking…nope. No one could ever outshine Tim Curry. He made psychotic transvestites dressed in rubber gloves and garter belts scarily hot. And man, what a voice.

It’s all so wrong. Rocky Horror needs to be left alone. This low-budget, downright cheesy movie became such a legend because it held a certain something that’s affected millions of people the entire world over. Rocky horror is more than a low-budget musical. In this day and age it’s hard to imagine how significant that little movie actually was–is. But it blew open the doors on preconceived ideas of sexuality. It even made some of us question our own sexuality. It made hairy men in garters sexy. And that’s pretty fucking cool. RHPS is like the Mona Lisa for pervs. It needs to remain untainted. It needs to remain the pop culture icon it is. Please, MTV. Don’t fuck with it.

Anyway, if you care about this as much as I do, you can sign a petition here.

Poor Baby

My manuscript has been to the plastic surgeon. She came back all marked up so now I know where to cut into her. She’s having a complete overhaul. Eyes, boobs, nose. Maybe some lipo. The works. Luckily I have lots of painkillers handy. I think we’re both going to be needing some.
